Alyssa Royse speaking about Sexual Shame at TEDx Rainier

Okay, now that the video is done, I actually have to watch myself speak. Really, is there anything worse than watching yourself on video? But here it is, the video of my TEDx Rainier talk on sexual shame. Although I can nitpick it to death, the truth is, I am proud of it. I am excited to work on creating a world in which we are all sexually free, happy, safe and fulfilled. A world in which we can say both “yes” and “no” and have it mean something.

Here’s the video. You’ll notice, at the end, that I had the audience fill out a quick survey, (I’m going to ask you to do the same.) The idea was simple: show everyone that we’re not all that different. It is totally anonymous and very simple. It is not intended to be scientific as much as to illustrate that all of us have fears, desires and “secrets.” The TEDx audience sample was small, but it actually aligned with the national averages. So I want to keep going, get more data, look at it, start conversations and maybe change a few ideas, explode a few myths.

Please share both the video and the survey, let’s see what we can learn from each other.

XOXO – Alyssa
